Using “damit” in German
"Damit" is typically used when you have two different subjects in the two parts of your sentence. (dort einkaufen)

Nicht austauschbar sind um zu und zu allerdings, wenn die Infinitivgruppe attributiv eingesetzt wird, also als Beifügung zu einem vorangehenden Wort oder einer vorangehenden Phrase: Die Aussicht, in Domburg eine Woche auszuspannen, ist verlockend.

In diesen Fällen steht die Infinitivgruppe nur mit zu; der Gebrauch von um zu ist hier falsch.
